KENMARE
CONNECTION
From John Conway's family lore, we
have reason to believe that Michael and Julia
Sullivan came from Kenmare originally. We are
related to John Conway's family through the father
of Frank Sullivan, Denis Sullivan b 1849 in
Claddanure, Kenmare, County Kerry.
We have reason to believe that many
families from Kenmare kept either contact or
knowledge of each others families after Michael and
Julia immigrated to NYC and their children to
Saratoga Springs. Denis (b 1849 shown as 1845
in tree below) and Cornelius (b 1842) Sullivan, both
born in Claddanure, Kenmare, County Kerry,
immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Saratoga
Springs. The Saratoga Springs directory first
mentions Denis in 1876. He was a grocer.
Cornelius was first mentioned in 1880.

- Julia
O'Connell's father would have been named
John. I found a
Griffiths Valuation record for a
John O'Connell in
- Dromcunnia, Templenoe,
County Kerry. See map for the
proximity of Dromcunnia to Claddanure.
John Conway's family lore
says that "Flynn's
and Sullivan's came from area known as Beara
Peninsula on the border of County Kerry
(East of Kenmare) and County Cork.
McGillicuddy's from west side of Kenmare
near Ring of Kerry."
Question: Did Michael
originally come from the Beara Peninsula,
then lived in Kenmare, then left from
Glengariff to come to NYC?
Question: Are we from the
Sullivan Mor or Sullivan Beara clan?
